In Mesa cocaine rehab news, a new study has associated a genetic variant with cocaine addiction and the paranoia that the drug often induces. The study discovered that variations on the markers of the MANEA gene play a prominent role in the process of cocaine dependence.

"Our findings suggest that cocaine dependence and associated behaviors may involve biological pathways not typically thought to be associated with brain metabolism and now opens a new pathway to understanding these highly prevalent disorders and their psychopathological manifestations," explained the study's main author, Dr. Lindsay A. Farrer.

Cocaine is one of the most commonly abused drugs in the U.S. In 2002, almost six million people over the age of twelve had used cocaine in the previous year.
